Of all the losses auto accidents can cause, none is more tragic than the loss of lives. Sadly, motor vehicle crashes took quite a few lives out on the roads last year in Colorado.
According to preliminary totals from the state, Colorado saw 545 traffic deaths last year. The state's traffic death total from 2014 was only 488. Thus, there was a 10 percent increase in motor vehicle fatalities in the state in 2015. This is the biggest percentage increase in traffic fatalities the state has experienced lately.
Also, the 2015 total is the highest traffic fatalities have been in the state since 2008.
Given how many traffic deaths occurred last year, one hopes Colorado's drivers will give a special focus to driving safely this year.
The traffic fatality statistics from 2015 also illustrate how big of a toll drunk driving is taking in Colorado. According to the data, 32 percent of the state's traffic fatalities last year were alcohol related. This underscores how vital it is for drivers to stay away from getting behind the wheel when intoxicated.
Additionally, the statistics show that motorcyclists made up a fair chunk of the state's traffic fatalities in 2015. Specifically, of the people killed in traffic accidents in the state in 2015, 104 of them were motorcyclists. This was a record high for motorcycle fatalities. It is very important for motorcyclists to act safely on the roads and for motorists to respect motorcyclists' rights. Among the things one hopes all drivers in Colorado will do this year are be watchful for motorcycles and avoid engaging in driving conduct that would put motorcyclists in danger.
Wrongful death attorneys can help families of individuals killed in Colorado traffic accidents with their search for how the accident happened and their search for justice.
