Crash with police vehicle leaves mother to raise 2-month-old

A fatal car accident is always a shock. Learning that a loved one has died in a car crash is a heartbreaking moment that takes your breath away. No one is ever prepared for that situation. Now imagine that it was your fiancée, who has left you to care for your 2-month old child who suffers from Down syndrome.

You never have a choice or option, to say "No, I have too much on my plate right now…" Such was the fate of a young woman in Westminster last week, who found out that the father of her child and her husband-to-be, was killed when he was involved in a collision with a Westminster Police car.

The police department has stated that their preliminary investigation indicates the officer's lights and siren were on at the time of the collision. His cruiser went through a red light and the turned in front of the police vehicle.

The young mother, however, says she has spoken with witnesses at the scene who claim there were no emergency lights or sirens on the vehicle at the time of the crash. She is worried that the police will attempt protect their own if the officer made a mistake.

Sorting out this type of discrepancy is an important job a personal injury attorney when they investigate these types of car crashes. While police are authorized to violate traffic laws when responding to an emergency call, they still have a responsibility to the public to refrain from reckless conduct that creates a greater danger to innocent motorists.

This situation is an extreme example, but it highlights the complex emotional and financial issues you may be facing after a fatal car crash, and why many people resort to working with an attorney for assistance in dealing with these traumatic matters.
