Colorado residents who need continual reminders of the dangers of driving after consuming alcohol sadly need not look hard. Reports all too frequently give information about tragic results of accidents caused by drivers who make reckless and negligent choices.
In one accident earlier this summer, it was the poor decisions of a retired trustee from the University of Denver that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy and injured a 13-year old boy. In the end, the 81-year-old former trustee also died. The accident occurred when the elderly woman was driving near South Madison Street and East Yale Way in Denver. The two boys and another friend were standing in a bike lane on the side of a road while the woman was driving down the same road, allegedly drunk at the time. After hitting the two boys, she kept driving until she crashed at a nearby park and stopped.
Criminal charges were originally filed against the driver but they were later dropped after she died. Reports from the coroner's office in Denver indicate that her blood alcohol level was measured at 0.135. It is also the second accident that the woman is believed to have caused in less than one year. Her family members are reported to have been concerned about her abilities to drive safely anymore.
Incidents like the above are completely preventable yet keep happening. Victims and their family members may find it useful to talk with an attorney after these accidents to learn how they may seek compensation.
