Accidents involving large commercial trucks are a problem in Colorado. Many things can contribute to accidents involving these vehicles such as driver fatigue, distraction or even poor judgment. Sometimes the causes are not fully known or may be known but are not publicly reported.
The cause of a recent truck crash near the mile 180 marker along Interstate 25 is one in which few details about a potential cause are known. What is known is that a Colorado State Trooper wearing special reflective gear was on the side of the freeway providing assistance to an earlier accident on a Friday afternoon. While tending to the incident, the man was hit by a commercial truck. The trooper died at the scene of the crash.
The accident took place not far from the location at which another officer was killed in 2015 by an impaired driver. It is not known if the alleged at-fault truck driver in the recent crash was impaired by drugs or alcohol, was distracted or something else. Reports indicate that the truck driver may eventually be charged with a criminal offense but no details have yet been released about what offense or offenses may be involved.
