Traffic accidents in Colorado may involve drivers of any age for sure, especially knowing that many factors ranging from environmental and road conditions to driver negligence can contribute to crashes. However, recently released information from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety suggests that drivers in the millennial generation may be some of the most dangerous on Colorado roads.
The group suggests that 12 percent of all millennial drivers consider it acceptable to exceed the posted speed limit when driving. In addition, people in this generation are believed to send texts while behind the wheel at a rate double that of drivers in other generations. The findings come in conjunction with data showing that last year was one of the deadliest on Colorado roads with millennial drivers being a big reason why.
Among the behaviors pointed to as potential causes of accidents in 2016 were visual distractions by cell phones, failure to stop at red lights and driving above the speed limit. Other data suggests that 88 percent of millennials exhibit at least one behavior considered dangerous when driving in a given period of 30 days. Overall, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety indicates that people have become too accepting of motor vehicle accidents.
