Colorado residents who are injured or who lose loved ones in tragic vehicle accidents should be able to trust that justice will eventually prevail. This may come in many forms as both civil and criminal options for this justice may be present depending upon the circumstances.
The family of a woman who was killed by a drunk driver may have received some portion of this justice after a recent ruling and sentence handed down to him. The accident occurred in Denver at an intersection on Downing Street. The woman who was killed had been employed as a reporter with a local publication for the past 13 years. She was struck by a man who was on his way home from a sporting event.
Not only did the drunk driver hit and kill an innocent woman but he did not even stop at the scene of the accident. It was only later on that he actually called police. He has been sentenced to six years in the Department of Corrections but may be able to start probation as early as this summer. It is not known if the woman's family is pursuing any form of civil compensation for the death of their relative.
After an accident, it may be helpful for Colorado residents to learn how they may be able to seek compensation by talking with an attorney. This might offer options from which to make decisions.
