After decades of advocacy group efforts to raise awareness about the danger of drunk driving, it is shocking to think about how many people in Colorado continue to grab their keys and get behind the wheel of a car after consuming alcohol. Even with improved safety features in vehicles, sometimes there is no way to save a person's life when a negligent drunk driver rams into another vehicle.
Today, the friends and family members of a high school senior are mourning the loss of their loved one after the young man was killed by a man who was operating his vehicle while intoxicated. The crash is said to have happened in Colorado Springs on a Friday evening. According to reports, the man who is 52 years old was in the process of making a turn and did not provide the appropriate right of way that he should have. In the process, he drove right into the vehicle carrying the 18-year-old student.
The blood alcohol content level of the alleged drunk driver is not known nor are the results of any field sobriety tests. Currently the driver has been charged with vehicular homicide. It is unclear what type of penalties may be associated with this charge if he is ultimately convicted.
Colorado residents who are affected by serious motor vehicle accidents might find it helpful to discuss their situations with lawyers in order to learn about any potential compensation options.
