Are you one of the many residents in Colorado who is worried to see drivers obviously texting while behind the wheel despite increasing public awareness campaigns highlighting the dangers of this type of behavior? If so, you are not alone. Consumer Reports is also concerned about the ongoing resistance of people to make safe choices when operating motor vehicles.
Forbes provided a report on a new study conducted by Consumer Reports that shows a very dangerous trend. A number of people were included in the study and asked to volunteer information about their behaviors when driving. A staggering 52 percent of those included indicated that they knowingly chose to drive while distracted. Those forms of distractions ran the gamut from watching videos on phones to playing or selecting music on phones to texting while driving.
With 94 percent of accidents said to involve some form of human error, these decisions made by drivers should not be taken lightly. That is why Consumer Reports is leading an effort to increase awareness about the risks of distracted driving and encourage car makers, regulators and drivers alike to take their fair share of the responsibility and work to find a way to make the roads safer for everyone. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration records show more than 3,400 people were killed due to distracted driving last year.
